This manual follows the installer app wizard, which drives the install. Work the wizard on your phone while you physically install — map each CT as you land it. Tap any item to check it off; progress is saved on this device until you reset.
⚠ Open items being finalized A few details are still being confirmed by KC and are marked VERIFY in the steps below — don't treat those as locked yet. Everything else is grounded in the live app and the Refoss manual.
⚡ Safety — non-negotiable Main breaker OFF before any panel work. Service-entrance conductors stay live with the main off. Full PPE. Follow NEC + local code. You're the licensed electrician — this manual assumes that judgment, it doesn't replace it.

Before the truck rolls

Dispatch · prep · what must already be done

Must be true before you arrive (not your job — confirm it's done)

These happen upstream. If any is missing, the job isn't ready — call the office, don't improvise.

Customer is scheduled in the system Signup → admin dispatched it to our org → it appears in your app's assignment list. If it's not in your list, it's not scheduled.
Job shows in Pending Assignments when you log into the installer app Tap the customer row to pre-load their name + address into the wizard. Walk-up / unlisted? Use "Start Fresh Install".
A Brain (PM-XXXX) is assigned/available for this install Provisioned, labeled, enrolling. The wizard validates the PM number against the pool when you scan it.

Customer (or someone with the WiFi password) will be home You need their 2.4GHz WiFi password on-site — for both the Refoss and the Brain. No WiFi access + no Ethernet = you can't finish. Confirm before rolling.

Arrival & customer

Property entry · what to say

VERIFY: PowerMeans to finalize entry protocol / tone. Below are sensible defaults.

Introduce yourself, confirm the appointment + customer name
Locate the panel + confirm where the Brain will sit (shelf/closet within WiFi range)
Get the 2.4GHz WiFi name + password up front You'll use it twice — Refoss onboarding and the Brain. Get it now so you're not chasing the customer mid-install.
Plain-English pitch "CLiDE watches your home's electrical panel circuit-by-circuit and catches problems — overloads, failing equipment, surges — before they become a fire or a costly failure. I'll install a small meter in your panel and a little hub that does the monitoring. You get an app to see it all. First 90 days are free."

Refoss meter — physical + WiFi

Done in the Refoss app, BEFORE the wizard Hardware step
Key fact The CLiDE wizard does not set up the Refoss. You onboard the meter in the Refoss app first (PowerMeans Refoss login), get it on WiFi + reading data, find its IP — then the wizard's Hardware step records and verifies it.
⚡ Power offMain breaker OFF before placing the unit or landing CTs. Service conductors stay live.

Mount & wire (per Refoss manual)

Place EM16P main unit in/near panel, ≥2" from live parts
Route antenna outside the panel (knockout + grommet) — not enclosed in metal Enclosed antenna = WiFi signal problems. Use spare grommet/silicone if the included one doesn't fit.
Power the unit off two breakers — Phase A + Phase B per the harness EM16P is breaker-powered, not outlet-powered. A-phase powers the unit; B-phase is the second voltage reference.
Clamp each CT around a single conductor, arrow toward the load Backward CT = negative reading. Fixable in software later (Refoss app → Circuit Factor) — no need to reopen the panel. But aim right the first time.
Note which phase the C-bank harness (blue wire) lands on — A or B C1–C6 share one voltage reference. You'll declare this phase in the wizard Circuits step. Write it down now.

Onboard to WiFi (Refoss app)

Restore main power; confirm the unit's green LED
Refoss app (PowerMeans login) → add device via Bluetooth → join customer 2.4GHz WiFi VERIFY: tech uses KC's PowerMeans Refoss account. Customer ownership transfer is a separate process only at cancellation — not part of install.
Confirm circuits read power/voltage/current in the Refoss app
Get the Refoss IP address + reserve it static in the router if you can Static preferred — the Brain reads the Refoss at this IP. If DHCP changes it, the Brain loses the meter. Can't set static? Note it on the install as a known risk.

The Brain (PM-XXXX)

Place the Brain on its shelf/closet spot, within WiFi range, power via USB-C
Screen lights to the CLiDE logo within ~60s
Connect the Brain to WiFi via the screen Long-press logo (2s) → tech page → WIFI SETUP → tap the network → type password with the stylus → GO. Green CONNECTED = done. (Some Brains are pre-staged with the WiFi — if it's already connected, skip.)
Long-press → tech page: confirm PM-XXXX matches the case label + Bridge shows ENROLLING It stays "enrolling (unclaimed)" until the wizard claims it at submit. That's expected now.
No Ethernet at the spot?WiFi-only is fine — the Brain runs on WiFi alone. Ethernet is only a fallback if WiFi won't cooperate.

Wizard — capture

Property → Scan → Panel → Photos → Equipment → Home

Log into the installer app, pick the customer from Pending Assignments (or Start Fresh). The wizard auto-saves to the server as you go — but don't rely on memory, finish the session.

Property — confirm customer name, address, type
Scan Device — scan the PM-XXXX QR on the Brain case Must read AVAILABLE. "Assigned" = already claimed (wrong Brain). "Not in pool" = check the label. Manual entry works too.

Wizard — Circuits & live verify

The core: map CTs, prove every circuit reads

This is where CT placement meets the app. Map each labeled breaker to its EM16P channel, then verify against live readings.

Set the C-bank phase (A or B) — the one the blue C-side wire landed on From Phase 2. C1–C6 share this voltage reference. Wrong phase = bad C-bank readings.
Tap each breaker slot → set label + amps → assign its EM16P channel Long-press a slot for breaker options (tandem/half-slot). Only labeled circuits get verified.
Tap CONNECT TO RELAY — confirms live link to the Brain Connects to ws://[Refoss IP]:8765. Shows "CONNECTED — N circuits live." No connect = check the Refoss IP / Brain WiFi.
Tap TEST N LABELED CIRCUITS + turn loads on one at a time Each circuit shows ✓ OK (watts>0) or ✗ NO DATA. Toggling one load at a time confirms the CT is on the wire you think it is. Catch mislabeled/backward CTs NOW.
Get to N/N VERIFIED (all green) before moving on Backward CT (negative/no data)? Fix in the Refoss app → Circuit Factor, no panel reopen needed, then re-test.
Capture any panel concerns (upsell items) + subfeed lugs if present
Multi-panelIf there's a subpanel, the wizard loops Panel + Circuits per subpanel. Finish one panel block, then "add another panel."

Wizard — Hardware verify & submit

The gate. All 5 boxes required.

The Hardware step records the device + a 5-point checklist that must all be checked to submit. Don't check a box that isn't true.

  • Voltage readings in range (115–125V)
  • WebSocket stable for 5+ minutes
  • Baseline learning initiated

Photo ReviewReview/Submit Submit validates CT assignments — inline errors are tappable, they jump you back to fix. Then it provisions the customer + site, claims the Brain, mints its key, and starts the 21-day baseline.
After submit: long-press the Brain screen → Bridge flips to CONNECTED/STREAMING + watts go live The claim writes the Brain's config; the screen flips from sample data to the real home's watts. The TAP FOR ELECTRICIAN button also goes live now.

Customer handoff

PIN · app · the trial story

The wizard's Handoff screen shows the customer's PIN, an app-download QR, and a "tell the customer" card. Walk them through it.

Show the app-download QR; have them scan it with their iPhone camera
Give them their Login PIN (on the handoff screen) In the app: tap "I have a PIN" → enter it → their monitoring is already live.
Tell the customer — myCLiDE "Download myCLiDE from the App Store. Open it, tap I have a PIN, and enter [PIN on screen]. Your monitoring is already running. It's free for 90 days — the first few weeks it learns your home's normal, then it starts alerting you. After 90 days it's $29/month per meter, cancel anytime."
If they're a Founder (first 100) "You're one of our first 100 customers — your $29/month rate is locked for life. We'll never raise it on you."

VERIFY: The app's in-wizard handoff text currently says "PowerMaul" — the store name is myCLiDE. Say myCLiDE to the customer until the app text is updated.

Show them the TAP FOR ELECTRICIAN button on the Brain screen Tap → status → the pill button. It pages PowerMeans directly. (Confirm it shows green "Request sent" now that the unit's claimed.)
Answer questions, confirm they can log in, thank them
